My Generation

People look at life in the wrong way
They seem to be near sided
When it comes to seeing the big picture
Or something far away

Yet you can’t blame an ostrich
For not being able to fly
Since parents lead by example
The baby bird knows no other way

Some traits are inherited
While others are gained
But if the parent never teaches
The child is not to blame

Most people do what they know
And what they do best
They don’t care or think about the rest
Their Granddaddy did it
Their Daddy did too
So what’s the worst it can do

Adults, the leaders of today
Fail to see and teach
To the leaders of tomorrow
With the corruption of each new generation to come
I fear the progression once it’s all done

The lies, cheats, affairs, and divorces
Becoming as toxic and common as air pollution
It surrounds us entirely
Becoming a part of our society
Leaving everyone confused on what to do

I fear for my generation
And the generations to come
Because chivalry is dead
More men are getting locked up
Girls getting knocked up
And no one knows what to do

More babies having babies
Having babies’ babies
Trying to take care of a family at sixteen
Struggling to make it
Not break it
Living off food stamps
And everything in-between

If our collective nation
Focused on the problem at hand
Instead of proceeding and progressing
To fix other people’s demands
We’d be able to improve ourselves
Modify our situations
And make necessary improvements

Our society is headed towards the doldrums
Rushing to take a dive
On the other side
Yet they’re unaware
Unprepared
And don’t know what lies ahead
